The hygiene and safety of your pillow core directly affect sleep quality and overall health. Neglecting cleaning can lead to the growth of bacteria, mites, and fungi, causing skin allergies, respiratory discomfort, and even infections. Here are some scientifically effective maintenance methods to help you fully protect your pillow core's hygiene.
Regular Cleaning: Different Materials, Different Cleaning Methods
Pillow cores cannot be treated the same way. You must choose the appropriate cleaning method based on the material to avoid damaging the material or causing adverse effects.
Synthetic Fiber Pillow Cores (Polyester, Soy Fiber, etc.)
Washable: Hand wash or machine wash with a neutral detergent and warm water.
Drying Recommendation: Lay flat to dry in a well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fiber aging.
Note: Wrap in a towel when machine washing to prevent deformation.
Down Pillow Cores
Washable but with Caution: Hand wash recommended. Soak in 30℃ warm water with a neutral detergent for 10–15 minutes.
Do not wring dry: After washing, use two towels to press and absorb water, then air dry in a cool, ventilated place. Regularly pat to prevent clumping.
Alternatively, choose professional dry cleaning.
Latex Pillow Core
Hand washable: Gently press and wash with cold water and neutral detergent, repeating the "squeeze-release" motion to remove stains.
Do not machine wash, expose to direct sunlight, or tumble dry at high temperatures: This can easily lead to oxidation, powdering, and cracking.
Air drying method: Air dry naturally in a cool, ventilated place. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
Memory Foam Pillow Core
Do not wash: The porous structure makes it difficult to dry after absorbing water and is prone to mold.
Cleaning method: Wipe the surface with a damp cloth or use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust; if there is an odor, ventilate for several hours.
Plant-filled Pillow Core (buckwheat hulls, cassia seeds, etc.)
Do not wash: Washing can easily lead to mold, deterioration, and loss of medicinal properties.
Cleaning method: Empty the filling, sift out any debris, and then sun dry. Wash the cover separately.
